July 6, 2009 -  The 9th IGAD focal points meeting convened in Addis Ababa last week focusing on strengthening the working relationship between IGAD secretariat and IGAD Focal Points.

The meeting was chaired by Ambassador Brook Debebe, special envoy of Ethiopia to IGAD and was attended by IGAD Executive Secretary, Eng. Mahboub Maalim.

The IGAD Focal Points consitute the two IGAD focal ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and technical line ministry which act as the overall point for IGAD developmental affairs.

In view of the increased number of IGAD programs coming under implementation, there is pressing need for strengthening the capacity of IGAD Focal Points.  In this regard, a two day workshop on team-working proceeded todays meeting where participants discussed solutions for building the capacity of the Focal Point.

"It was an excellent process of building an IGAD team rather than learn skills of team-building as had been initially perceived," said Tonny Kinsambwe, Uganda's Focal Point. (Information from IGAD)
